What is Canola Oil? Benefits of Canola Oil

Canola (Brassica napus L.) is the largest edible oil crop in Australia, and it looks almost the same as the rapeseed plant but contains different nutrients. The manufacturing process of canola oil involves many steps, some of which are seed cleaning, seed cooking and desolventizing. This process ensures producing the best quality oil at a high-smoke point and extends shelf life. Made from crushed canola seeds, canola oil is high in monounsaturated fats, while low in saturated fat, which makes it one of the best all-purpose oils available.

Canola Oil is light and clear and has a natural flavour that makes it a good choice for your daily cooking or baking needs. Here are some of the benefits of including canola oil in your diet and how to use it properly.

Canola Oil Benefits

1. Low in saturated fat

Saturated fat consists only 7% of canola oil, while monounsaturated fat is 64% and the rest 28% is polyunsaturated fat. Saturated fats can raise bad cholesterol (LDL) in your body and have been linked to coronary heart disease. Some vegetable oils contain twice as much saturated fat as canola oil. This high level of unsaturated fats makes it a safe choice to prevent heart disease or high cholesterol levels.

2. Minimal cholesterol and High level of omega-3 fatty acids

Fatty acids are smaller units that fats are made from. Canola oil is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids that are essential in your diet since your body doesn’t produce them on its own. These are Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which is an essential omega-3 fatty acid and Linoleic acid (LA) which is an essential omega-6 fatty acid.

3. Increases metabolism and aids in weight loss

Canola oil contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that are vital to a healthy diet. These fatty acids are known for their ability to increase metabolism.

4. Improves blood pressure and cholesterol level

Canola oil is proven to improve blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels. It contains alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is a type of omega-3 fatty acid derived from plant sources. Sources of ALA can boost levels of the omega-3 fats DHA and EPA, which are vital for heart and brain health.

5.Canola oil benefits for skin

Canola oil is a source of vitamin E which is a potent antioxidant that can support and revive skin cells. It can also reduce free radical damage and slow the ageing process of your cells.

How to Use Canola Oil

Coroli Canola Oil is best used at medium to high heat for Sautéing, Stir-frying or Baking. Its light texture, mild flavour and high smoke point make it one of the most all-around oils. It could be used in salads as dressing or in sauces and marinades without overwhelming the other ingredients’ taste. It is also a good option when oiling your pan before grilling or cooking something quick.
